Christmas Miracle - Wildcard to the World Final

After the conclusion of the ACM ICPC Asian Regional Contest - Singapore Site, we were quite disappointed with the results (as we did not win in Taipei and did not win in Singapore as well). I started trying to return to normal life again, since there was so many projects to be done (and was not done previously because of the ACM ICPC competitions I had to attend).

Day 5 (December 16th) - Return to Jakarta

The fifth day does not have anything special in particular. We had some time to visit a new and huge shopping mall Vivocity which is located in the HarbourFront. Had a lunch in there and returned to the hotel to retrieve our luggages and depart to the Airport by MRT. The other team stays for a little while longer before catching the Valuair flight which depart two hours later than our Lufthansa flight.

Day 4 (December 15th) - Singapore Sightseeing

In the fourth day, the team who stays in Fort Canning lodge moved to Summer View hotel, while Kenny and Timo moved to Kenny's brother's place. We go around the city, visiting Chinatown and had some lunch over there. Some of us bought some souvenirs there (which was cheap) but none remembered to take any photos there.

Day 3 (December 14th) - Contest Proper and Awards Ceremony

Based on the experience from the previous day, we managed to depart early from the hotel and went directly to NUS. As the previous day, our team arrived earlier than the other team from Fort Canning. Some breakfast was served by the committee in the venue. Not long after that, all of us moved to the contest venue, which require some queuing to ride the elevator upstairs. I handed over my camera to Suhendry, to take some pictures during our contest.

Day 2 (December 13th) - Opening Ceremony and Practice Session

The day started early, as we were all awake by 6am while the sky outside is still dark (just like 5am in Jakarta). The hotel serve breakfast on 7am, thus making us having to eat quickly and walk fast to the Bugis MRT station. The destined Buona Vista MRT station is several stops away from there, thus requiring about half an hour of MRT ride. The other team along with the coaches departed late, thus we proceed on our own to the National University of Singapore (NUS) by bus.

Day 1 (December 12th) - To Singapore through Batam

The journey started with an AirAsia flight on the very early morning. I got to the airport at about 5:15 and found that Suhendry and Timotius is already there, while Kenny is still on the way. Since it's getting late, we decided to enter to the check in hall first. The domestic section of the Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) was very crowded, just like a bus station. Just entering the check-in hall require some 15-20 minutes queuing for security check.

ACM ICPC Regional Contest - Singapore Site 2007

For the first time, I participated in two ACM ICPC Regional Contests in the same year. This year, since there is a regional being held in Singapore, which is quite near Indonesia, our team YoiMon decided to go there as well (although on our own expense) with Suhendry Effendy as our coach. To save up some costs and find some new experiences, we decided to go to Singapore through Batam.

Day 7 (November 28th) - Return to Jakarta

The last day of our trip started with another breakfast in McDonalds, after which I visited the Wan Chai computer centre to look for some NAS harddrive enclosure (which I did not found with a reasonable price). Kenny also went there with us and bought a MP4 player, helped by Ms. Henny who negotiated for some bonus with the purchase. Most of the shops in there are not yet open in 10am, and some of them open as late as 11:45am.

Day 6 (November 27th) - Hong Kong Tour

We woke up a bit late, went to McDonalds for a breakfast, and decided to go to Lantau Island to visit the giant Buddha statue. However, since the Ngong Ping 360 cable car has been closed due to an accident (one of the car fell off the cable at night), we have to go there by bus and that takes around one and half an hour plus the waiting queue. The road is also have some construction work in several places, thus the trip is not quite enjoyable.

Day 5 (November 26th) - Departure to Hong Kong

The fifth day was partly used for wandering around Taipei, and unfortunately I did not take any picture on this day. Started the day with a breakfast provided by the organizing committee, we checked out of the hostel and leave our luggage there. Went to the Taipei City Hall MRT station and visited the adjacent Taipei City Mall (台北地下街).
